The COVID-19 Lockdown Chronicles — It’s an omnibus!

Of headaches, Zoom meetings, sometimes really disliking technology, music, writing, and resources for working from home Wow, what a couple of days! On Monday I had an absolutely lovely headache and actually ventured to The Outside World, to the pharmacy to get some Migril. Because guess who forgot that her Migril was finished. It wasContinue reading “The COVID-19 Lockdown Chronicles — It’s an omnibus!”

Thoughts on hobbies and writing

Guess what? I’m still busy with the Ruon Chronicles full outline. Thank goodness for Aeon Timeline and Scrivener! Okay, and I’m using Notion as well to a point for random jottings for ideas. Notion is awesome, by the way (not sponsored mentions). So, I’ve also had a bird’s eye look at the overall outline andContinue reading “Thoughts on hobbies and writing”

Worldbuilding Wednesday: Building on the Ruon Magic System, Part 1

Last time I looked at the four branches of “Nith” or magic in The Ruon Chronicles. This week I’m going to look a bit deeper at the magic system that I’m building for the Ruon specifically. Okay, so while the main charms are worked in embroidery, there are also other forms of needlework and weavingContinue reading “Worldbuilding Wednesday: Building on the Ruon Magic System, Part 1”

Worldbuilding Wednesday — Worldbuilding a Beginning

I guess worldbuilding a beginning to the world of Airtha-Eyrassa really only started after I read The Silmarillion (which is also one of my favourite books of all time). While I did not start the world by writing the beginning and creation, it was soon apparent once I’d started that it was a necessary partContinue reading “Worldbuilding Wednesday — Worldbuilding a Beginning”

Knitting a lot and then knitting some more

Apart from an amigurumi bunny for a colleague’s baby shower, I’ve really been knitting a lot more than crocheting. I finished the Reyna shawl and am now busy with the wrap pattern called “Moonlight” by Pat Strong. Although I have gone full rainbow colours on this wrap and not anything near the demure dark colourContinue reading “Knitting a lot and then knitting some more”

Digging out my embroidery skills

I hope I’m not the only one who buys craft kits and then take a year (or five in this case!) to start on them. In 2012 I got one of  Rosework’s embroidery patterns called “Firebird” and finally started working on it about a month ago. (Roseworks is a local — i.e. South African —Continue reading “Digging out my embroidery skills”

Learning and Practising Knitting and Embroidery

So it’s been a busy few weeks writing wise (both fiction and at work!), but I have been crafting more than I thought I would thanks to the Easter weekend. I only have one FO to show – the “Love” embroidery that came as a kit with one of the Mollie Makes magazine issues. TheContinue reading “Learning and Practising Knitting and Embroidery”

Golden Rainbow Shawl and News

It’s finished! Made from Sirdar Divine yarn (colourway 062), the asymmetric shawl I was busy with is now finished. This is the end result: It’s based on another scarf pattern that includes some lace knitting inserts, but I realised only after working with the Divine yarn for a bit that the lace pattern won’t work.Continue reading “Golden Rainbow Shawl and News”

Knitting and amigurumi all the way

Meet my newest amigurumi creation! The pattern is a paid pattern from DIY Fluffies (check out their other patterns while you’re at it). I found the pattern very well written and thorough (Photos! Graphs!) so making it was seamless even using a different thickness of yarn. I only substituted the size of the eyes asContinue reading “Knitting and amigurumi all the way”
