I did it! I sponsored the word “hersenskim” in the Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal (Dictionary of the Afrikaans Language – think the OED). Basically sponsoring words are a way of procuring more funds to continue with the lexicography work necessary to continue the dictionary. And, as “hersenskim” is one of my favourite words and the name of the blog, I decided that it’s perfect. Plus, check out my cool certificate…
I’m going to the 2018 Medieval conference!
In other awesome news, my paper proposal for the SASMARS conference in Stellenbosch in August this year has been approved and selected. Which means that I will give the paper at the conference, but also means I need to get to writing said paper…
The title of the paper is: “Rememberer of Gods and Kings: the Literature of Snorri Sturluson and His Interaction with Mythological Elements and History”. I can’t wait! I attended the conference in both 2012 and 2016 and it was so wonderful both times!
Guess what my vacation for the year is… (As I’m an independent scholar – i.e. not affiliated with a university – I have to pay for myself.)
Patreon fiction and beyond!
While Box of Secrets is coming along, I am also slowly busy with the rest of “Forgotten”, a short story which came out of nowhere and demanded to be written. Okay, it came from a photo I saw on one of the stock photo sites, but the idea of making it into a horror story is quite new for me.
The behind the scenes for Porselein (my Afrikaans WIP) will mostly be on Patreon and only available to the Patrons – tier $1 and up. Some of the stories I post on Patreon, however, is open for anyone to read – so be sure to follow my Patreon link and follow me!
