NaNoWriMo and Prep Resources: Scrivener

Welcome to the first of my NaNoWriMo Prep posts! I will do one of these every week in which I will be looking at different resources for NaNoWriMo.

If you don’t know what Scrivener is, here are quick introductions (for Mac and Windows).

If there is one software I can highly recommend, it’s Scrivener. I wish I had this software while doing my MA! I can honestly say that I am not only much more organised because I’m using the software, but I am also more productive. It’s like Scrivener knows how my brain works and lets me work accordingly. I’ve tried a lot of different software programs, some aimed specifically at writers, but none of them worked for me. I had heard about Scrivener a couple of times before I started using it last year for NaNoWriMo. And I haven’t looked back since!

Starting to use the software can be a bit daunting, however, once you get the hang of the basics, it’s extremely easy to use. And the good news is that there are many video tutorials available online to help you get the most out of Scrivener. Here are two videos that I found to be very thorough and easy to follow when I started using Scrivener.

Both of the tutorials are by writer Jason Hough and are available on his YouTube channel. They are quite long, so I would suggest watching the first and using the software for a bit before moving on to the second video.

* Please note that the views above are my own. I was in no way paid for doing this post.
